We generally think of websites as we see them when they are completed and fully functional. Some of us are aware of how fully-operational sites make money. But what most people don’t know is that making money can be done in an “under construction” site.

So If you have just bought a domain name and haven’t yet built the pages for your website, you shouldn’t have to wait until your site is complete before you start to make money while parking it with the registrar. But even before purchasing a domain there are some things you need to do.

For making money on parked domains you have to find a good keyword for your home page URL for it to soar to the top of searches. To look for the hottest keywords for a particular subject you need only navigate to Google key words, type in the topic to search for and submit. The keywords with the highest monthly and/or global ratings represent the words most often typed in by searchers when looking for the topic you typed into the search box.

Next, you go to a domain registrar and try to purchase a new domain name to make money for you, using one of the top keywords you found. For instance “makemoney.com (which by the way is already taken)” If you are lucky enough to find one that is not yet taken, you can proceed to creating your home page and making money. After completing the home page, you can park it with the domain registrar if they offer that service. Those that do allow domain parking can also help you to monetize your page by displaying ads related to your domain name. Since your url is based on a popular keyword you can expect it to get loads of traffic and with a lot of traffic, the banners and ads you display on the home page will probably make money in a short while.

If all the keywords you researched are unavailable, you will simply have to look for abandoned and expired URLs using those hot keywords. Many domain names expire every day whatever reason prevented the owner from continuing with it. A fair percentage of these domains may contain high-ranking keywords plus a sizable amount of regular traffic and links to various other sites and search engines, just waiting to make money for you. You can get these traffic statistics from the registrar’s site.

If you do find a domain with a hot key word URL (plus some amount of regular traffic), buy it to start making money. In this respect, you should look for domain registrars that sell expired domains at affordable prices, although the price will probably be higher depending on how SEO primed the URL is and on whether it already has a big volume of regular traffic.

If you bought an abandoned domain that has regular visitors already you don’t need to do much more. Otherwise, you should fill the home page with pertinent ads for your own items or for third party products and services from which you can be making money.
